The Comparative Advantages of Hardwood and Laminate Flooring

Choosing a floor covering for your home or a room in your home will be determined by the way the room will be used. Floor coverings should be practical and ideal for the surrounding. They should also be warm and comfortable. You wouldn’t want to step out of bed onto a cold tiled floor and in the same way, you wouldn’t want to stand on food stains in your kitchen.

Modern and Contemporary Choices

One of the most popular forms of flooring nowadays is laminate or hardwood flooring. Many people prefer the idea of wood because it is warm, natural and easy to install. With the invention of locking floor planks, it is even simpler to lay your own flooring. Whether it is hardwood or laminate, you will feel the difference when compared to linoleum flooring.

Hardwood Advantages

Hardwood flooring is made from solid hardwood timber. The wood is treated and laid and will last for many years. While it is not scuff resistant it can easily be sanded and refinished as and when the owner wishes, which is cheaper than replacing it.

Laminate Advantages

Whilst laminate flooring can’t be sanded because it is made from Medium Density Fibreboard, it is far cheaper to purchase than hardwood flooring. Laminate is a reasonably priced alternative for those with lower budgets, and it will last for a long time if kept properly.
Laminate flooring does have a downside when compared with hardwood flooring, and that is, it is not scuff resistant. Moreover, because it can’t be sanded, you would need to replace much of the surrounding floor if you had a damaged piece. This can be impractical if you have to tear up an entire floor to replace one piece because it goes scratched.

There is no specific winner because both have their advantages and disadvantages. It really is down to your budget, you preferences and your ability to lay flooring.
