Taking Care of Laminate Flooring | Glenearn Flooring
Laminate flooring is one of the most popular types of flooring in the UK, with millions of homes loving the convenience it offers, along with its attractive appearance. Did you know that you could be shortening the life of your laminate flooring, though, if you’re not caring for it properly? Here are some simple tips to help you keep your laminates looking as good as new and to ensure they last as long as possible.

Use Only Recommended Products
There are plenty of cleaning products on the market specifically tailored to laminate floors, so make sure you only use these and not general all-purpose products. Unless a cleaning product specifically says it’s suitable for laminates, it’s best avoided. Using products not intended for laminate flooring could cause irreversible damage, and could lead to warping, scratching or discolouration.

Don’t Get it Wet
While some laminates are suitable for use in bathrooms or other humid rooms such as kitchens and utility rooms, that doesn’t mean you should leave pools of water on the surface. Due to the nature of laminate flooring, it is not completely waterproof and any spills should be mopped up as soon as possible. Using a damp cloth to wipe over your laminate flooring is fine, just don’t leave water on the surface and don’t use too much water. If you’re using a mop, squeeze the excess water out of it first.

It’s also important to regularly vacuum or sweep to remove any stones or pieces of gravel that have been tracked in from outdoors. This can scratch your floor if you’re not careful, leading to unsightly marks that can’t be removed.
